To the Office of the Jury Commissioner:
This letter is a request to be excused from jury duty.
I believe morals and justice are critical for maintaining and advancing society. The same could be said about division of labor. I am very uninterested in being a juror. Many other San Diegans possess the ability and enthusiasm to be good members of the jury. They are much better jury-duty candidates than me. Please choose them, not me.
Forcing everyone to do the same job is both immoral and unjust. My maxim is that each person enjoys the right to do whatever s/he wants as long as s/he does not unfairly harm another person. Requiring me to perform jury duty unfairly restricts my own schedule. A jury-duty obligation violates my maxim, creed, or religion. The US Constitution's 1st Amendment obviously protects my right to freedom of religion.
As you already know, the Sixth and Seventh Amendments from the United States' Constitution give Americans many rights and responsibilities. For example, the Sixth and Seventh Amendments give Americans the right to a “speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury” and regarding “suits at common law . . . the right of trial by jury shall be preserved . . . ” These 2 amendments do not command all Americans to partake in this impartial jury or trial by jury.
A compulsive jury-duty is also unsound for productivity. There is a reason why division of labor is found in every functional institution. We dislike associating and working with a person who suffers from low morale and/or incompetence. We also unnecessarily struggle to do so. My apathy against jury duty disqualifies me from providing the best legal service to the defendant, prosecution, judge, other jurors, the press, and anyone else closely involved with the case. Demanding that I participate in the legal system is totally inessential due to San Diego's ample quantity of citizens who have better skills and higher motivation to be jurors.
I really do not want to be a juror. You could and should easily access much better jury-duty candidates than me. Please excuse me from jury duty.
Thanks for your time,
