I never knew pencil extenders exist until recently. Pencil extenders come in various types. A pencil extender attaches to a short pencil to make it longer, thus, you could write with a short pencil in a comfortable way. I also use mechanical pencils with 0.7 mm and 0.9 mm thick leads (more like graphite rods). I can't stand the 0.5 mm thick leads, because I break them so easily.
Sometimes, I prefer using traditional wood pencils over mechanical pencils. I think it's nostalgia, but I'm not sure. I use a razor blade attached to a box cutter to manually sharpen my wood pencils. I don't like the manual pencil sharpeners, mechanical pencil sharpeners, and the electric pencil sharpeners, because they always cut a pencil's lead into a finely tapered point. I don't always want a sharp point, and this cutting method wastes lead. This is especially important for colored pencils.
I use to throw away short pencils, because they were too uncomfortable for writing. Now, with the pencil extenders, I could easily use the short pencils. This is a truly amazing concept, but it's strangely uncommon.
I got pencil extenders that are designed to firmly grab onto a pencil that has a 7 mm diameter. The pencil extender has a silver piece that screws onto the colored piece. You screw on the silver piece to tighten the colored piece onto the pencil. The colored piece has a completely empty interior with one end that is closed off and another end that is open and designed to connect to the silver piece and pencil. I think the pencil extender is made of aluminum and/or steel. It feels decently solid and lightweight.
You could buy the pencil extenders on the AliExpress website or Amazon website. They come in various colors: silver, blue, green, orange, red, & purple. At least one seller sells the silver ones. Other sellers sell the colorful ones.
